Haltwhistle
are offering railway enthusiasts a dream weekend by opening up their historic
station for two Heritage Open Days. On Friday 8th and Saturday 9th
September the Tyne Valley Community Rail Partnership will be participating in
Heritage Open Days to give visitors the chance to see some of the historic
features of the station, which was opened in 1838. Highlights will include the
1901 Grade II listed signal box, named as one of the BBC’s top 10 signal boxes,
and the 1855 Haltwhistle Station Booking Hall. Visitors will be able to go
inside the signal box, take a guided walk to the magnificent Alston Arches
viaduct and get their hands on reproductions of classic Edmondson tickets for a
small donation, as well as enjoy a craft fair and light refreshments. It is a
fantastic opportunity- don’t miss it!
