Walking in the family footsteps

Members of the Ogle/Ogles Family Association (O/OFA) are undertaking an incredible trip around Northumberland this week. 49 cousins from the USA arrived in Northumberland yesterday, and after a welcoming ceremony last night they will embark on a series of visits to iconic Northumberland landmarks this week, including Bamburgh Castle, Eglingham Hall, Ogle Castle, Hexham Abbey and many more.

The Ogles are descended from John Ogle, who sailed to America in 1664 with a group of British soldiers to recapture Delaware and what later became New York from the Dutch military. He is believed to have come from the Eglingham Ogles and the family are all descendants of the Ogle family, who were prominent in Northumberland and lived at Kirkley Hall until the early 1900s. The O/OFA is dedicated to the preservation of the history and genealogy of the Ogle and Ogles family in the USA.

On Friday there will be a farewell dinner at Macdonald Linden Hall Hotel for the members of the organisation, before they depart for their next destination on Saturday.

This sounds like a fascinating trip and I hope that everyone involved enjoys their time in Northumberland!
