Know your first aid- you never know when you'll need it!

None of us know when we might be called upon to give first aid, and so it is so important that we have the necessary first aid skills to be prepared for an urgent situation. The British Red Cross has shared information on how to give first aid to someone who is bleeding heavily. Easy to learn and easy to perform, you never know when this information might be needed:

1.     Put pressure on the wound with whatever is available to stop or slow down the flow of blood. You are acting as a “plug” to stop the blood escaping. The pressure you apply will help the blood clot and stop the bleeding.
2.     Call 999 as soon as possible. If you can’t call 999, get someone else to do it.
3.     Keep pressure on the wound until help arrives.
