Although many communities across the Hexham Constituency are gradually becoming reconnected, there are still far too many affected by a loss of power.

This has been an unprecedented storm but it is now a very serious situation. Engineers on the ground are working extremely hard to restore power in affected areas, and both I and the government have made it clear that Northern Powergrid must do all they can do restore power to all as soon as possible. I am holding daily meetings with the company to get updates and raise specific and urgent cases. I am also in constant contact with the County Council and emergency services to provide specific assistance.

Northern Powergrid have confirmed to me that they will pay market rates and reasonable costs for generators, and we are coordinating with local generator suppliers to assist in getting these out to people on the ground.
There are a limited number of generators, and these are being prioritised for the most vulnerable.
