Local groups
are being invited to bid for a share of community funding, with grants of between
£500 and £10,000 available. Swedish energy group Vattenfall, the developer and
owner of the Ray Wind Farm near Kirkwelpington, plan to make more than £250,000
available every year to the local community. The grants will be distributed by
the Community Foundation and charitable organisations, voluntary and community
groups and social enterprises within 10km of the wind farm will be given
priority. Funding can be used for projects including maintaining village halls,
access to facilities and covering running costs for community groups.
