Yesterday saw
the much-anticipated arrival of the Tour of Britain in Northumberland, and the
eyes of the sporting world were on our wonderful scenery. Starting at Kielder
Water and Forest Park yesterday morning, some of the world’s best cyclists made
their way through the Northumberland countryside to finish the day at Blyth,
travelling a distance of just over 211km, making it the longest stage of this
year’s tour. Taking in Rothbury, Alnwick, Bamburgh, Morpeth and the
Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, it was a spectacular
sight and it was fantastic to see the spotlight on Northumberland for the day,
with so many people turning out to support the cyclists. There was also a dramatic finish, as Elia Viviani was announced as the winner of Stage 2 following a review which saw Edvald Boasson Hagen relegated. The Tour of Britain
continues today, so make sure to keep up to date!
