Free school transport proving popular with local students

I am delighted to hear that nearly 900 students in Northumberland have been using the free post-16 transport since the start of the school year, following Northumberland County Council's decision to remove £600 a year charges introduced by the former Labour administration. This is a significant increase on those using school bus services provided by the county council in the last academic year. Under the policy Northumberland residents are provided with free transport to travel to a full-time course at their nearest provider.

It is absolutely right that local students should receive free transport and I am so pleased that Northumberland County Council's decision to scrap the charges has had such a positive effect.
