Remembering our Servicemen and women- 2017 Poppy Appeal

Yesterday the Royal British Legion launched their 2017 Poppy Appeal, and I would like to encourage you to support the appeal and wear your poppies with pride!

This year’s campaign is called Rethink Remembrance, with an emphasis on recognising not only the sacrifices made by the Armed Forces of the past, but also by today’s generation. With this year marking the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Passchendaele, wearing a poppy and supporting the Royal British Legion honours the memory of those who lost their lives in past conflicts, whilst also remembering servicemen and women who have made huge sacrifices in more recent conflicts like Afghanistan and all of those who still work, not always in combat but in peacekeeping and humanitarian projects.

The Royal British Legion supports members of the Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Air Force, veterans and their families, who need help because of injury, illness, bereavement or other forms of hardship. Their annual Poppy Appeal is dedcicated to improving their lives and remembering the fallen.

As Remembrance Sunday approaches, I hope that you will join me in proudly wearing a poppy and remembering our veterans, servicemen and women.
