Climate change is one of the most important issues we are faced with today, and I am delighted that the North East are leading the way on educating children about climate change. The North of Tyne Combined Authority has committed to providing every state-funded school in Northumberland, Newcastle and North Tyneside with the opportunity to train a member of staff as a UN-accredited climate change teacher. The project is led by Corbridge Middle School teacher Dr Meryl Batchelder, who is Northumberland’s first UN teacher.
This is a hugely significant step and I am so pleased to see the North East leading by example and ensuring that the next generation receive the best possible environmental education.
