Yesterday brought an end to a fabulous few days of golf at Close House, with a dramatic final day of the British Masters. Ireland's Paul Dunne shot an impressive nine-under-par round yesterday to win his first European Tour title, beating Rory McIlroy who finished second despite his best round of the weekend on Sunday. It was a suitably exciting end to the tournament which has been a brilliant advert for Northumberland and sport in the North East, and I would like to congratulate Paul Dunne on an outstanding win.
Over the course of the four day tournament, more than 60,000 golf fans arrived at Close House to watch some of the world's best golfers in action and I would also like to congratulate Graham Wylie for putting on this fantastic event. I hope that this weekend is only the first of many top sporting events we will see in the North East in the future!
