I recently joined farmers and NGOs to celebrate sustainable farming across the UK at a Farmers’ Market event in parliament.
The event was really well attended with cross-party support from more than 60 MPs and Peers. It showcased nature-friendly UK farming produce, discussed the links to the environment and the future of farming - and demonstrated consensus on the need for a strong Agriculture Bill which enables us to use public money to help farmers, and at the same time to enhance and protect the environment.
In February the Government announced a consultation on radical recommendations to change farming policy and make it more environmentally friendly and sustainable- including putting improving nature at the heart of farming subsidies. That consultation - Health and Harmony is found here: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/684003/future-farming-environment-consult-document.pdf
It is well worth a read.
