Flooding can be devastating for families, businesses and farmers, as the damaging floods of 2015 showed. I therefore welcome the Environment Minister Therese Coffey’s announcement last week that thousands of properties across England will be better protected against the threat of flooding thanks to a multi-million pound investment by the government. 13 flood schemes across the country will benefit from £40 million of additional funding, including the Corbridge Flood Alleviation Scheme, which will receive £140,000. This is one of five flood schemes in the north of England that will receive nearly half of the funding in a boost to the Northern Powerhouse. This is great news, helping to protect communities and help them to grow and prosper.
