I recently announced the launch of the Hexham
Constituency Community Champions Awards, which recognise some of the
extraordinary achievements of people in communities across the constituency.
Since the awards were launched, I have been pleased to honour these outstanding
members of the community and every week I will be showcasing more of the recent recipients.
Kirk
Barclay and Geoff Cant- for sporting and charitable achievement, walking 100
miles in aid of Tynedale Hospice at Home
Ebony
Canney- for charitable achievement through donating her hair to
the Little Princess Trust
Tony
Hodson- mountaineer and charity fundraiser, for sporting and
charitable achievement
Ron
Longstaff- for outstanding achievement, passing his advanced
driving test at the age of 90, and achieving success in cycling, winning Veterans Road Race World Champion in 1997
Nancy
Potts- for charitable achievement, volunteering at the Oxfam
Shop, Hexham, and making thousands of canvas bags for sale in the shop
Joan
Russell- one of the founders of the Prudhoe Community Allotment
and recipient of a Long Service Award from the WRVS for work including
delivering Meals on Wheels to the elderly, for service to the community in
Prudhoe
