Great news today for schools across Tynedale and Ponteland, as the Education Secretary, Justine Greening, has announced an extra £1.3bn per year in funding to schools in England. The increase has been announced in response to concerns expressed during the general election that school funding has previously been allocated unfairly and inconsistently, with schools in different parts of the country receiving different levels of funding. The plans have been welcomed by the ASCL head teachers' union and while individual school budgets will not be released until the autumn, overall budgets will rise from £41bn in 2017-18 to £43.5bn in 2019-20. I have campaigned for fairer funding for Northumberland schools over a long period of time and I welcome today's announcement.
