Months of hard
work has paid off for the Forestry Commission, the Tyne Rivers Trust and
Northumberland Wildlife Trust as 325 water voles have been released in Kielder
forest, with 350 more to be released in August. Water vole numbers have fallen
since the 1970s and the groups have worked collaboratively to improve the
habitat across Kielder Forest for water voles. I look forward to hearing about
the water voles’ progress and wish continued success to everyone involved! The Wind in the Willows' Ratty would approve!
