I am pleased to hear that Northumberland County Council is going
to increase its annual contribution to Hadrian’s Wall by £10,000 to £25,000.
The council co-ordinates the management of the Wall, which is a World Heritage
Site, on behalf of six other local authorities along the Wall, and the money
will go towards funding the role of a dedicated management plan co-ordinator,
marketing and other projects. A report prepared for the council revealed that Northumberland
is the county most likely to benefit from the economic, cultural and social
benefits of the Wall, so this really is fantastic news for our region. Hadrian’s
Wall is one of Northumberland’s most famous landmarks and I am delighted that
Northumberland County Council are ensuring that it remains an important part of
our culture and history for years to come.
