This week
it was announced that Northumberland County Council has secured £5 million in
funding from the government’s national Highway Maintenance Challenge Fund. The
Council made a successful bid for a share of the funding, and the money, along
with a further £1.5 million from the County Council itself, will be used to
improve 24km of highway along three key routes in the more rural areas of
Northumberland. Northumberland County Council also explained that they have
chosen crucial routes for industry, tourism and residents to be improved
through strengthening, resurfacing of potholes and drainage work. I know that
the state of our roads is one of the most important issues for many
constituents and so I welcome this announcement which will make a huge
difference to Northumberland’s residents.
