Rebuilding the Wall

One of Northumberland's most famous landmarks, Hadrian's Wall, is set to benefit from a £1.3m grant from the Heritage Lottery fund. The money will help to fund a project to protect at-risk sections of the wall, which have been damaged by severe weather, tourism, invasive plants and erosion. The project will see academics from Newcastle University identify locations in need of protection and train a team of volunteers in a range of skills to prevent damage to the wall, who will be able to continue the work after the project has ended in 2021. This is a fantastic project and I am delighted that Hadrian's Wall- such an important part of our culture and history- will be protected for years to come.
