Celebrating the arrival of Spring

Yesterday was the Spring (March) Equinox which marks the start of Spring. The Equinox takes place when the Sun is directly over the Equator, meaning that day and night are almost equal in length. The date of the Spring Equinox is not fixed because the Earth’s orbit around the Sun takes an average of 365.25 days, but the date moves between 19th, 20th and 21st March. However, whereas the Spring Equinox signals the start of spring in the northern hemisphere, in the southern hemisphere it marks the beginning of autumn.

The last few weeks have brought some bad weather, but we can hopefully now look forward to seeing the signs of spring! The only way is up!
